Profile: Katherine Allen
Biography Katherine lives and works in Dublin, New Hampshire enjoying wonderful views of Mount Monadnock and the surrounding landscapes. Born and raised in Southern England, she was surrounded by great architecture and breathtaking stained glass windows. Driven to create since she was old enough to hold a pencil, she has painted, sculpted, sewn, glassed, scrap booked, had fun with pyrography and also designed web sites. What started with a desire to put her imagination on paper blossomed, and she ventured into using more mediums. People often asked Katherine to help design their living environments in one form or another. Her art was a contribution to the community. In her professional life, Katherine was always daydreaming about the next project, or how to make an existing one even better. Discontented with conventional jobs, Katherine moved into art as her vocation, in particular stained glass work, when the opportunity arose, and with encouragement from family and friends. She then created her own designs and named her business Foxwind Glass. Artist Statement I have been crafting with glass for the last two years. I employ lead came and copper foil techniques to create panels, sun catchers, boxes and stained glass kaleidoscopes. I very quickly acquired a kiln to fuse glass paint to cut pieces, and then expanded into fused and slumped glass vases, decorative bowls and plates. I work with very high quality materials and often import my glass sheets from Europe. I am primarily
self-taught and have participated in workshops and seminars conducted
by leading stained glass artists. I enjoy using the character and quirks
found in stained glass to produce dynamic effects in my art, carefully
cutting, wrapping, and soldering each piece to create a study of color,
light reflectance and texture. |
