Profile: Sandy Sherman
Biography Sandy Sherman, a native of New Hampshire, has been painting in a realistic manner since 1980. Her forte is still life painting. Sherman’s canvases feature unusual effects of light and color. She derives inspiration for paintings and landscapes from the wilderness beauty surrounding her studio at Crescent Pond in Stoddard, New Hampshire. The artist trained with Debbie Crowder, Peter Granucci, and Richard Whitney. Highlights of her career include awards in competitions hosted by the Academic Artists Association, the Catherine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club, and the Sharon Arts Center in Sharon, New Hampshire. In 1992, she was awarded the title of Copley Artist from the Copley Society of Art. In 2002 she earned a Finalist Award in the annual competition in painting hosted by the Artists Magazine. Her paintings have been shown in galleries in Boston, New York, and Atlanta. An artist of strong humanitarian instincts, Sherman held two one-woman exhibits (1992, 1997) of her paintings at Peter Havens in Brattleboro, Vermont to help The Aids Foundation. The artist balances her energies between the easel and enjoying the pristine natural beauty of Crescent Pond and the land that surrounds it. |
